“Romeo” Lyric Video

Conan Gray’s team requested multiple lyric videos as a part of the rollout for his album “Wishbone”. This was one I was able to be a big part of. He wanted the lyrics to animate on a royal-looking parchment and to have a simple animation. I had a lot of fun working with teammates and creative directors to make this come to life.

“Sunset Tower” Lyric Video

Just like the example below, most of the other lyric videos use Conan’s handwriting. Keeping the simplicity we were aiming for, we traced the lyrics he provided over photos so it reads like they’re being written on paper in real time.
The concept for this one is a notepad found in a hotel lobby or room. It was set up to look like a pad Conan could have used to scribble lines to the person the song is about. Subtle camera moves and soft paper textures keep the focus on the words.

“Caramel” Lyric Video

The concept for “Caramel” was to make it look like the whole song was scribbled on a napkin. Very similarly to “Sunset Tower”, it’s meant to look used, with some coffee rings and a crumpled look. The focus is once again on the handwriting itself.
